Este artículo busca presentar un panorama histórico de la disciplina economía de la cultura, trazando un paralelo entre el desarrollo de esta disciplina y los procesos y transformaciones de los paradigmas de las políticas culturales internacionales. Este artículo pretende demostrar cómo la relación entre arte, cultura y creatividad transformó los paradigmas de las políticas culturales internacionales en los últimos 80 años y guió los estudios desarrollados dentro de la disciplina Economía de la Cultura.
