This article analyzes the importance of Physical Education in the integral formation of the student, considering its contributions to motor, cognitive, socio-emotional, cultural, and civic development in the school context. The study was developed through a qualitative and descriptive literature review, supported by legal documents, curricular guidelines, data from the National School Health Survey, and recent studies on physical activity, learning, health, and well-being. The discussion highlights that Physical Education cannot be reduced to sports practice or energy expenditure, as it works with bodily practices that express culture, identity, cooperation, respect for differences, autonomy, and self-care. The analyzed data show that the low proportion of sufficiently active adolescents reinforces the need for planned, inclusive classes articulated with the pedagogical project. It is concluded that Physical Education, when guided by educational intentionality, favors integral formation by integrating body, mind, coexistence, and citizenship.
