The use of non-lethal explosive grenades has been very active in the scenario of civil conflicts in Brazil and in the world. In Rio de Janeiro, the high levels of weapons seized, ranging from firearms to explosive and improvised explosive devices, demonstrate the military power of criminal agents and factions in that state, being now found non-lethal explosive grenades. Although the term non-lethal explosive grenade refers to an artifact that does not endanger the life of the user or the affected person, there is explosive material inside the device which, if misused, can cause severe, permanent damage and even death or property damage in the event of contact with inflammable substances. Under the legal aspect, the possession and use of explosive devices are of restricted use and civilians are not allowed to use them without prior authorization, thus being classified in the offense described in the disarmament statute.
