REFLECTIONS ON THE MOVIE “UP” AND THE INFLUENCE OF THE MEDIA ON THE SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF ELDERLY

The present paper sought to reflect on aging making a parallel discussion with the movie “Up”. According to the critical analysis of the film and the bibliographical survey, it was possible to identify the role of the media in general in the social construction of the elderly. Among the aspects observed, the fact that the media can influence the way the elderly are seen and how they see themselves caught our attention in relation to a society that still sees the elderly from the perspective of decay. At the same time that the media contributes to this view of aging, gerontology itself also brings a new model to be followed. However, even with changes in visions and behaviors already achieved, it is still necessary to invest in public policies aimed at the elderly.
