This article provides a brief history of the COVID-19 pandemic, showing that the Ministry of Health acted quickly and scientifically to contain the disease, despite the denial and hesitation of the Presidency of the Republic. This hindered interministerial decision-making as well as the implementation of measures to reduce circulation and crowding people, resulting in the spread of the disease to countless Brazilian locations. With the interiorization of the pandemic, several measures are still needed to improve the response to COVID-19.
