Abstract

Introduction: Complex odontomas are benign odontogenic tumors classified as hamartomas, formed by disorganized dental tissues such as dentin, enamel, pulp, and cementum. They occur most frequently in the posterior region of the mandible and are generally asymptomatic, being diagnosed during routine radiographic examinations. Although not aggressive, they can cause delayed eruption, tooth displacement, cyst formation, and aesthetic alterations when not identified early. Given their clinical importance and the need for correct diagnosis and treatment, it is relevant to gather updated evidence on this pathology. Objective: To analyze the clinical, radiographic, histological, and therapeutic characteristics of complex odontomas, highlighting their etiology, manifestations, differential diagnosis, and treatment options. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the PubMed, SciELO, and BVS databases, following the PRISMA guidelines. Full, free articles published in the last 10 years and related to the topic were included. Duplicate articles, theses, dissertations, and publications not aligned with the research focus were excluded. The searches took place between September and October 2025. Expected results: This study aims to gather and organize the main scientific evidence on complex odontoma in the posterior region of the mandible, highlighting its clinical and radiographic characteristics, diagnostic methods, and therapeutic approaches. Furthermore, it intends to identify possible complications, the prognosis of the lesion, and gaps in the literature that can guide new studies and improve clinical management.
