Abstract

It was claimed and it was reported in some social media in the Brazilian media channels that there would be and analogy between the lockdown and chloroquine. Considering that this type of information can have harmful educational interpretations, such as denying the importance of maintaining social distance and using an ineffective drug for prevention and treatment of COVID-19, the objective of this essay was to demonstrate through deduction the fallacy of both premises and conclusion. Bringing the health historiography of the COVID-19 pandemic in China and Brazil, several ideas were demystified regarding lockdown/social distance and chloroquine/ineffective treatments, presenting a comparative picture between both approaches. In conclusion, measures of social distance, including lockdown, are a bitter but effective remedy and not a whim of ideological groups.
