SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW ON WORK ENGAGEMENT (2013-2022)

The growing competitiveness of the market has intensified the need to understand individual behavior in the workplace, particularly with regard to work engagement. This article aims to analyze the landscape of international scientific production on work engagement, with emphasis on the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions, and to propose a future research agenda based on a systematic literature review. The adopted methodology consisted of a Systematic Literature Review using the Web of Science database, covering publications up to 2023. Initially, 3,747 studies were identified, and after applying eligibility and exclusion criteria, 690 documents remained for analysis. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Bibliometrix and Biblioshiny packages in R, tools that allow for the mapping of trends, identification of influential authors, collaboration networks, and emerging themes in the field of work engagement. The analysis of scientific production on Work Engagement revealed a significant increase in interest in the topic, particularly since 2020, highlighting studies that relate the Job Demands-Resources model, burnout, and Organizational Citizenship Behavior. The literature demonstrates a growing diversification of theoretical and methodological approaches, with particular attention to the relationship between engagement and performance, well-being, and organizational innovation. The thematic mapping revealed two main clusters—one focused on negative impacts and another on emerging practices such as job crafting—and indicated the interconnection of engagement with mental health, leadership, people management, and work adaptation, suggesting promising avenues for future research. The bibliometric approach adopted provided a comprehensive and structured overview of the topic, contributing to the guidance of future investigations and the advancement of knowledge in the field.
