Abstract

This study investigates the work “Amoras” by Emicida (2018) in light of the theories of Bakhtin, Fairclough, Vygotsky and Paulo Freire, exploring their contributions to a deeper understanding of the social, cultural and identity dynamics present in the text. The analysis focuses on Bakhtinian polyphony, Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, cognitive development according to Vygotsky and Freire's critical pedagogy, examining how the protagonist negotiates her identity in a multicultural urban context. The central objective is to demonstrate how these theories can be applied to analyze the construction of the protagonist's identity in “Amoras”. The methodology used is qualitative and interpretative, using a hermeneutic approach to uncover the meanings underlying the literary text. The theories of Bakhtin, Fairclough, Vygotsky and Freire serve as an analytical framework, allowing a meticulous reading of “Blackberries” and identifying elements of polyphony, critical discourse analysis, cognitive development and educational dialogue in the work. The results reveal that the protagonist is influenced by different voices and experiences that shape her identity in a dynamic and complex way. The application of the theories highlights how Bakhtinian polyphony enriches the narrative by incorporating diverse cultural and historical perspectives. Furthermore, critical discourse analysis demonstrates how language use challenges and reconfigures dominant social narratives, fostering deep reflection on power and identity. It is concluded that “Amoras” transcends the mere telling of a story, offering a significant reflection on the importance of dialogue, diversity and empowerment in the construction of both individual and collective identities.
