Resumo

O artigo discute os desafios da descarbonização no setor da saúde, que é responsável por 4,4% das emissões globais de gases de efeito estufa (GEE), mas que também é vítima da crise climática. Tem como objetivo apresentar evidências sobre as principais contribuições deste setor às Mudanças Climáticas e para isso, realiza uma revisão de trabalhos recentes que identificam como as principais fontes de emissão direta e indireta dos GEE: consumo de energia em hospitais; produtos farmacêuticos; gases anestésicos; materiais descartáveis; transporte e gestão de resíduos sólidos. Sendo o setor de suprimentos responsável por 71% das emissões totais. O artigo, também apresenta estratégias de descarbonização, como: eficiência energética; substituição de materiais descartáveis por reutilizáveis; gestão sustentável dos resíduos sólidos; transporte com combustível renovável; compras “verdes” e uso racional de anestésicos e destaca que essas medidas são necessárias para tornar os sistemas de saúde mais resilientes e ambientalmente sustentáveis.
